DrugLog™ helps pharmacies ensure compliance with national guidelines and hospital values

Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL) is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Belgium with 6,000 employees and more than 945 beds. Beyond providing optimal patient care, CUSL partners with the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) for activities centered on research, innovation and teaching. CUSL provides reference care and treats serious, rare or complex diseases for Belgian patients as well as those from abroad. Medical practice in oncology hematology for both pediatric and adult patients is essential to Saint-Luc. The centralized unit for the reconstitution of cytotoxic drugs and monoclonal antibodies manages nearly 40,000 preparations each year.

Final verification of prepared pharmaceuticals is required by Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) at the European Union (EU) level. According to Belgian law (A.R. 30/09/2020), each hospital pharmacist is also responsible for the conformity and quality of what they deliver. In addition, quality and excellence are institutional values prioritized by CUSL to ensure that patients’ needs are met.

By adding the automated device DrugLog™ for further and reliable verification of prepared pharmaceuticals, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc gained documented traceability of their preparations and was able to reduce the staff working in the pharmacy cleanroom.

DrugLog™ is now used routinely as a release control of most cytotoxic preparations, and CUSL finds it both quick and easy to use. Another valued benefit is the traceability of test results and overview of performed measurements.
