Concluding 2020 – a strained health care system needs efficient tools

  • Blog

2020 will be remembered as a challenging year for many. On a personal level, the pandemic has meant tragedies for many of us. On a professional level, it has led to challenges for numerous companies struggling to remain in business. Everyone has had to adapt to the “new normal” and learn new ways to socialize and conduct business. The need for solutions that simplify working conditions for health care professionals has also become more apparent than ever.

Pharmacolog has also been affected by the global pandemic. Although we have had to significantly adapt our commercial approach, we have managed to keep momentum. The need for solutions that both simplify the work of health care professionals and focus on the safety of patients and care providers is more apparent than ever.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has put an unparalleled pressure on the healthcare system. Frontline health care workers in intensive care units and infection wards are under intense levels of stress. In situations such as this, efficient support systems for nurses and pharmacists are crucial to preventing unnecessary medical errors and mistakes.

Efficient support systems for nurses and pharmacists are crucial in situations like this.

Healthcare institutions are aware of this need, and although the pandemic has made it difficult for them to receive Pharmacolog’s system and on-site trainings, there is a continuous increased interest in our solutions to these needs.

Robust and efficient safety solutions
Since the launch of our expanded product portfolio a year ago, the interest in WasteLog® and PrepLog® has increased dramatically. WasteLog®, developed to facilitate a quick and efficient method for waste screening of controlled substances, is now being promoted heavily in the North American market. I am truly pleased to announce that in December, we both received a prestigious order for four WasteLog® systems from UT Southwestern in Texas and entered into a long-term partnership agreement with Codonics Inc. with a focus on WasteLog® sales and marketing in North America. With this new partnership, an additional reference customer, and our own very experienced sales staff on the ground, I anticipate exciting growth in the USA this coming year.

PrepLog® is now installed and being used at a French hospital and provides a completely new, integrated quality control of prepared chemotherapy medication. In addition, we have delivered systems that are used at ward level to ensure correct medication within pediatric care.

Our stand-alone device, DrugLog®, remains in our portfolio as a quick, easy-to-use and independent tool for quality control. As mentioned in our case study, “Quality Assurance of Insulin Production using DrugLog”, Queens Hospital in London has changed from previous HPLC control to DrugLog for QA of insulin preparations. Pharmacolog is proud to offer these solutions, which are helping health care professionals work more efficiently and safely provide high quality care to patients, especially during this challenging time when healthcare systems are strained.

Continuing to improve patient care in 2021
The world’s hard-working and dedicated healthcare professionals deserve efficient tools to deliver the best possible care to patients. The Pharmacolog team has done an excellent job refining our solutions for existing and new customers despite restrictions caused by the pandemic. We look forward to 2021 and to continuing to improve patient care worldwide.

We wish all of you a happy end to this challenging year and look forward to 2021 with confidence and excitement.

Stay safe.

Mats Högberg, CEO of Pharmacolog
